Fort McMurray Thunder Volleyball Club is committed to providing a safe, respectful, and positive environment that supports athletic development, personal growth, teamwork, and sportsmanship. All players and parents/guardians are expected to uphold the following standards at all practices, games, tournaments, travel events, team functions, and online spaces.
All members of the Thunder community must demonstrate respect toward:
Teammates
Coaches and club staff
Officials and referees
Volunteers and event staff
Opposing teams and spectators
Unacceptable behaviour includes (but is not limited to):
Yelling at, arguing with, or disrespecting officials or volunteers
Taunting, trash talk, or unsportsmanlike conduct
Disruptive behaviour from the sidelines
Public criticism of players, coaches, officials, or teams (in person or online)
Fort McMurray Thunder enforces a strict zero-tolerance policy for:
Alcohol
Illegal drugs
Cannabis
Vaping devices (including nicotine and THC products)
This policy applies to the players at all Thunder-related activities, including travel, tournaments, team functions, and events.
Any possession, use, or distribution of these substances by players or in player spaces will result in immediate disciplinary action, up to and including suspension or removal from the club.
Fort McMurray Thunder is a bully-free club.
The following will not be tolerated:
Bullying, intimidation, or hazing
Verbal, physical, or online harassment
Discrimination based on race, gender, religion, ability, sexual orientation, or any personal characteristic
Exclusionary or demeaning behaviour toward teammates or opponents
All concerns should be reported promptly to a coach or club executive.
Parents and spectators play a vital role in creating a positive environment.
Parents/guardians are expected to:
Cheer positively and respectfully
Allow coaches to coach and officials to officiate
Refrain from coaching from the sidelines
Avoid confrontations with officials, coaches, players, or volunteers
Failure to meet these expectations may result in removal from the venue or further disciplinary action.
Reliable communication is essential for team success.
Absences must be communicated properly:
Notify the coach as early as possible
Use the team’s designated communication method (TeamSnap, RAMP, WhatsApp, etc.)
Provide a reason for absence whenever possible
Repeated uncommunicated absences or late notifications may impact:
Playing time
Team selection
Travel eligibility
All players and parents must represent Fort McMurray Thunder positively online.
This includes:
No posting of negative, harmful, or disrespectful content
No public criticism of players, coaches, officials, or the club
Respect for privacy of teammates and families
Online behaviour is subject to the same standards as in-person conduct.
Violations of this Code of Conduct may result in:
Verbal or written warnings
Loss of playing time
Suspension from games or practices
Removal from tournaments or travel
Dismissal from the Fort McMurray Thunder Volleyball Club (without refund)
Disciplinary decisions will be made in the best interest of athlete safety, team culture, and club values.
Participation in Fort McMurray Thunder Volleyball Club signifies agreement to follow this Code of Conduct. Players and parents/guardians are expected to review and uphold these standards throughout the season.
